Karate begins and end with respect - gichin funakoshi

Typical classes at our dojo consist of the 3 main elements of training:
-
Kihon (basic techniques - blocks, punches, kicks, and footwork. This is the foundation of karate)
-
Kata ("Forms"- A prearranged series of kihon replicating a fight or movements within combat)
-
Kumite (sparring - both free sparring and sparring using techniques learned from kihon and kata)
-
Exercises and stretches for strength, endurance and to prevent injuries during training.
-
Self-defense drills and techniques often called Bunkai which are practical applications of what each technique is used for and the variety of ways to implement them.
